If you are going to begin training, you must make a conscious decision about what kind of training you want to do. You need to know what works for you. This is a decision you must make. Do you want to run, do you want to run cross-country? How about a tempo run? Or some fast paced tempo run and some slower paced tempo run? You need to be specific about the type of training and what distances you want to run. Training should be a goal and not an indulgence. If you are doing a lot of endurance training you probably will not be able to enjoy running. Make the decision first and then you can concentrate on enjoying running. You want to be a runner, right?

In order to be able to enjoy running you really have to decide what you enjoy about running. Running is more than just a sport it is an experience. You need to find out what you love to do in running. Find out what you enjoy the most about running. This exercise will help you decide what kind of training you want to do. Here are some things you need to find out in order to start your training. 1. What are you like in a race? Your abilities? 2. Is running something you enjoy doing? What do you like about it? 3. Do you like to run for long or short distances? 4. Do you want to get faster? Do you want to get faster by running faster or slower? 5. Do you like to run for fun or to work out? Do you enjoy running for fun?
